When I heard the news about Paul Allen, the 26th wealthiest person in America and C0-Founder of Microsoft, passing from cancer (Age 64) for some reason it really hit home!  It made me immediately think about Steve Jobs who was also one of the richest people in America and passed from cancer (Age 56).  Two men that had everything in the world, all the money they could possibly spend, recognition, success, etc. etc.  Maybe… it’s because I am almost the age of Steve Jobs or I can see that 64 is not that far off?  Maybe… it’s because I am in the health and wellness space, Maybe… it’s because I let over four decades go bye before I started working on my health,  Maybe…it’s because I speak to my friends about this issue and some of them don’t listen or seem to not care or maybe they have just not seen w...

What is freedom?  Is it just the ability to do what you want when you want, or it is really something much greater?   Is it something that effects those around you and the future.  Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Freedom is not the right to live as we please, but the right to find how we ought to live in order to fulfill our potential.”   For me it is something much deeper.

  • Freedom is living in a great country that fights for your right to be free.

  • Freedom is being able to worship the Almighty God without persecution.

  • Freedom is having the ability to choose your path.  Doing something that you enjoy and have passion to accomplish.

  • Freedom is being able to speak openly about anything.  I prefer the positive use of freedom of speech, but cannot judge...

I can never forget!  I  was in South Dakota filming a hunting show with ESPN outdoor writer Lynn Burkhead and my lifelong hunting buddy / cameraman Rodney Hutcherson.  17 years ago cell coverage was not guaranteed and when you are in the badlands in the bottom of a canyon you do not have reception! As we drove out of the canyon, after the morning hunt, my phone exploded with missed calls.  No texts at that time it had just been invented. That fact alone dates the event since most of us think we always had texting.   I called Darlene with my “bag phone” to hear her say “ We are under attack!!”  Something I never expected in my life time….  I said slow down and tell me what is going on!  She filled me in with a very concerned voice as we drove into town that was basically two buildings one of them b...

My head is spinning right now with all the things I want to say…. All we have is our health and if you don’t believe it’s true just wait until you get sick!!  At that point, when you are basically helpless and can only think about getting well,  it might be too late or very difficult to recover fully!  Now in my mid-fifties I understand this more than ever.  I believe with everything in my heart and mind that this is the most important thing I can do on a daily basis!  If I plan to be a healthy and vibrant well into my 80’s or 90’s I have to be very focused on this now!  I have been surrounded recently with people friends, family and people I know struggling with major disease processes and the pain both physically and financially that goes along.   My goal is not to give you a solution today as m...

Have you ever had those days where is seems like the world is moving fast in the wrong direction and the things you dream about for yourself or your family just seem a long way off?  I would assume the answer is yes for most people at one time or another.  Now that I am well over 50 and able to look back at the flow of life I have a different perspective. Adding to that a strong faith in God and knowing what the Word of God says about life it certainly helps me see the big picture instead of a narrow view that can be created during a stressful event or things just generally going the wrong way.  Life is full of interesting challenges, journeys, adventures and roadblocks.  All of these create our life story.   What I know for sure is…. It is our choice to decide the how we will walk through and wit...

I recently said this to a millennial and they asked me what it meant?  So, I explained that squeezing the lemon meant getting every last drop out of the day!   Every day that goes by I am reminded life is short.  There are many people that I grew up with, enjoyed watching or listening too that are now gone.  Reminding me that we have but one life to live.  The things that will remain are the people you impact positively that live on!  It is your true legacy.

  • Look for reasons to love and not hate.

  • Look for reasons to give not take.

  • Look for reasons to share Christs love not rules and religion.

  • Look for reasons to help not hurt.

  • Look for reasons to have patience not anger.

  • Look for reasons to train and teach, don’t be silent and say let t...

We have all been around people that have something negative to say about everything even though there are plenty of things to be thankful!  I think having an attitude of gratitude is one of the greatest keys to happiness!  It’s a choice, discipline or decision.  Basically you decide!

This is an interesting thought process.  I have often thought of this as something similar to what is your quitting point, but it is completely different.  You may not quit doing something you just slow down the process with excuses!   Here is what I am talking about in a real life example.  My son who is a retired Navy Seal gave me a great lesson and dose of reality last night or actually early this morning.   Before you say it… he is a Navy SEAL and they are different or special or better, etc.  Remember what we are talking about there is always and excuse!!

He started a new blog that you can access by simply going to his Instagram account @garrettunclebach  and ready his journey laced with great lessons learned as a SEAL.  Anyway, here is the lesson.  He...

This weekend at church I heard a great quote from our guest speaker Marcus Lamb.  He is the Founder of DayStar International the largest Christian TV channel in the world.  He was sharing about the many challenges DayStar had in becoming the leader in their field.    His quote was “Attitude is more consistent the words”.   Boom!!!  Drop the mic….  That pretty much says it all for me.  I have said for years that people are watching you.  They are watching you in life, business, family, etc.   What do you portray?

Do they look at you and say:

  • “What a positive individual?”

  • “They have really handled adversity well!”

  • “Such a nice person.  A real pleasure to be around”

  • “They always make me feel better!”

Or it coul...

There are many reasons not to go to church. The best one I can come up with is people are there!  If people are involved there will be mistakes, offense, gossip, backbiting, affairs, criticism, lies and hate.      Remember why most people go to church, which is simply a gathering of people.   First out of obligation because your parents went and now you take your family.  Second because you feel like you need help or community.  Maybe there was a death, someone got really sick, divorce, you relocated and don’t know anyone, you feel like your life is not totally unfulfilled and you decided to go.  All good reasons to be in church.

Here is what I know after over four decades of attending church.  I have experienced everything I just stated good and ba...
