Traveling has always been something I look forward too when it is for fun or adventure!  It is amazing to think we can travel the world so quickly. Just hop on a plane and in  a few hours you can be thousands of miles from where you started.  It makes the world feel so much smaller than it actually is…. We woke up in the morning overlooking one of the most beautiful views on the planet on St. Johns island in the US Virgin island chain and in just over five hours of flight we are back home to north central Texas by the end of the day.  As I have gotten older I have not taken this for granted it still amazes me that you can fly at over 500 mph with a few hundred people and a bunch of luggage to almost anywhere in the world you want in one day.

Its seems like no matter where we go...

If you ask different people you will get different answers.  If you ask young people you will get specific answers based upon experience usually based on money or fame.  If you ask middle age people it is usually around career and family.  When you reach your fifties and beyond you start to look at life differently. You are definitely on the downhill side of life.   This makes you look very introspectively at your life, accomplishments and what is really important.   You begin to determine what has value on a deep level.  Here are some things that I place value.  I am not telling you this is the definitive list, but it is my list.

  1. LOVE; not talking about infatuation or sex I am talking about love tested by time and pain.  Real love that is deep, tru...

What is freedom?  Is it just the ability to do what you want when you want, or it is really something much greater?   Is it something that effects those around you and the future.  Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Freedom is not the right to live as we please, but the right to find how we ought to live in order to fulfill our potential.”   For me it is something much deeper.

  • Freedom is living in a great country that fights for your right to be free.

  • Freedom is being able to worship the Almighty God without persecution.

  • Freedom is having the ability to choose your path.  Doing something that you enjoy and have passion to accomplish.

  • Freedom is being able to speak openly about anything.  I prefer the positive use of freedom of speech, but cannot judge...

My head is spinning right now with all the things I want to say…. All we have is our health and if you don’t believe it’s true just wait until you get sick!!  At that point, when you are basically helpless and can only think about getting well,  it might be too late or very difficult to recover fully!  Now in my mid-fifties I understand this more than ever.  I believe with everything in my heart and mind that this is the most important thing I can do on a daily basis!  If I plan to be a healthy and vibrant well into my 80’s or 90’s I have to be very focused on this now!  I have been surrounded recently with people friends, family and people I know struggling with major disease processes and the pain both physically and financially that goes along.   My goal is not to give you a solution today as m...

I recently said this to a millennial and they asked me what it meant?  So, I explained that squeezing the lemon meant getting every last drop out of the day!   Every day that goes by I am reminded life is short.  There are many people that I grew up with, enjoyed watching or listening too that are now gone.  Reminding me that we have but one life to live.  The things that will remain are the people you impact positively that live on!  It is your true legacy.

  • Look for reasons to love and not hate.

  • Look for reasons to give not take.

  • Look for reasons to share Christs love not rules and religion.

  • Look for reasons to help not hurt.

  • Look for reasons to have patience not anger.

  • Look for reasons to train and teach, don’t be silent and say let t...

We have all been around people that have something negative to say about everything even though there are plenty of things to be thankful!  I think having an attitude of gratitude is one of the greatest keys to happiness!  It’s a choice, discipline or decision.  Basically you decide!

  • I am thankful for my health!

  • I am thankful for my amazing wife @Darlene Unclebach of 33 years!

  • I am thankful for two awesome kids and two bonus kids! @Brittany Unclebach @GarrettUnclebach @James Lashua @Lindsey Karcher-Unclebach

  • I am thankful for great friendships!

  • I am thankful for best friends! @Keith Craft

  • I am thankful for a nice home!

  • I am thankful I live in America!

  • I am thankful for a great church! #elevatelc

This is an interesting thought process.  I have often thought of this as something similar to what is your quitting point, but it is completely different.  You may not quit doing something you just slow down the process with excuses!   Here is what I am talking about in a real life example.  My son who is a retired Navy Seal gave me a great lesson and dose of reality last night or actually early this morning.   Before you say it… he is a Navy SEAL and they are different or special or better, etc.  Remember what we are talking about there is always and excuse!!

He started a new blog that you can access by simply going to his Instagram account @garrettunclebach  and ready his journey laced with great lessons learned as a SEAL.  Anyway, here is the lesson.  He...

I am sure I am not the only one who likes Tim McGraw’s great song that says “ …always be humble and kind”.  These are great lyrics and I have found now after almost 5½ decades is there is no greater truth.   Being humble and kind is not always easy, but it is a choice. What I have noticed is most of the extremely successful people I know figure this out and at the peak of their success they are some of the most gracious and humble people I have met.  Matter a fact if you didn’t know who they were you would have no idea how successful they were!  Everyone likes recognition and wants to be noticed, but it is always better coming from someone else.  Sometimes you have to get some life under you belt to figure this out.  You have to have a few punches in the gut, a few setbacks to find out the world d...

Have you ever noticed how much is going on every day. What I mean by that is stuff that matters in all of our lives or certainly seems important.   We are working on our careers, helping our children, attending events, taking care of our elders, trying to close the big deal, working on building our network, trying to create some margin for fun like a vacation or a hobby.  What we must do is determine what does matter?  It is so easy to get in the busy flow of life and not really focus on the main things.  So don’t get me wrong, we all do things that have to be done every week.  My point is as I get older I can now look back on my life and see the rabbit trails and see the path of success.  I am not talking about just money, which is important, I am talking about things that are pieces of the tapes...

The Texas weather reminds me of life.  We say all the time “if you don’t like the weather just wait a day it will change!”  It is so true… This time of year it can be 80 one day and 40 the next!  Rain for weeks and than drought for months.  You just never know what you are going to get!  Honestly it is mostly mild here, but like all story telling in Texas it might be a little exaggerated.

In life things change and sometimes it seems like it’s a daily occurrence.  Change is the one for sure in life.  We are all getting older every day, children grow up so quickly, people change jobs now every 3 years,  technology is out dated almost immediately, cars change every few years,  over 50% of marriages change,  people change churches,  families move away, people pass,...
