The Unreasonable Man...

As the new year is starting to get rolling I have been thinking about progress and moving forward. The word this year declared by my Pastor is FORWARD and it is a great word. I love moving forward not backward. Or for that matter even just not changing or growing in my mind is going backwards. George Bernard Shaw had a great quote “The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore ALL progress depends on the unreasonable man.” That about sums it up!! It takes being unreasonable to make progress. So bottom line it is going to take some effort, hard work, and being intentional about your life! I know I brought up the dreaded four letter word..WORK!! You know there are times we all say I am Good! I really do not need to change, I have done enough, I am sick of growing. We are human and we get tired and frustrated at times in the process. However, it always comes back to your Core Values and what matters most to you.

So here a few things I always keep in my sights to make sure I do not get sidetracked in the life journey.

1. Legacy – the success of my family. So is what I am doing now meet that core value.

2. Others - am I leaving it better than I found it? I have a core value of helping others.

3. Learning - applying the life lessons, books I read and people I am around. So probably spending all my free time in front of the TV is not matching up! Note I said ALL, everything requires balance. Charles “tremendous” Jones said. 'You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.'

So the bottom line is... find a few things you can use from your Core Values which give your life purpose and just compare what you are doing to those values and its easy to see if you are making progress or not!.. I am choosing to go FORWARD!.. 2018 her I come!!!
