During my reflection time this morning I was thinking about what is possible in life and how do we get control of the basics let alone the more complex issues of life and I came up with this quote after thinking about the process.
“ Training creates discipline… Discipline creates control… Control creates mastery… Mastery creates expertise… Experts can train on discipline and the cycle begins again!”
And now the thought behind the quote. I thought about my life and specifically the last two years which are extremely fresh in my mind and also have taught me some valuable lessons at 55. If you are around me very often you will hear me say “ Its always a training issue”. I have used this with my coach or leader hat on and normally thinking about processes or systems, etc. As many of you know I have been on a restore my physical body health journey. I was pretty good on what was going on in the inside ( blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar levels, etc.) , but the outside was going down fast! Pain and the people around me @Darlene Unclebach and @garrettunclebach helped me get going in the right direction. Like other areas in my life is just simply started with training. I am just like you and didn’t really want to do it and didn’t even know at this point if I could, but I told myself “ you can do this” and I started. Being consistent to the Training it soon became a Discipline. I know they say it takes around 20 days and I am not sure if that was exactly the time, but around a month or so I got into a groove. After about 4-6 months it had officially became a discipline and a way of life for me. I looked forward and enjoyed the training! Now that I am right at a year into the process I am beginning to Master some areas and working on mastering additional areas. Because of the dramatic physical change I am now becoming and Expert and people ask me all the time “What are you doing? Can you help me?” So as Malcom Gladwell says I am putting in my 10,000 hrs.
The bottom line is you can accomplish amazing things by simply starting with training and adding in the secret sauce of consistency! If nothing else in life everyone who knows me will say he is consistent! That will make me an Expert at one thing. So let’s bring it down to a practical level. What are you trying to Master? Food, exercise, reading, personal growth, or just simply stop doing things you know are bad for you like too much sugar, excessive drinking or even watching pornography. In my opinion it starts with training, you have to start! You have to put something in the place of the bad habit or add in the thing you know will help create good habits. It’s really not that hard to figure out and you don’t need me to tell you what it is….you already know! You simply need to tell yourself like I did “you can do this” and in what is a very short time in the span of your life you can gain discipline and that will lead to control and it’s all downhill from there!!
