There are many reasons not to go to church. The best one I can come up with is people are there!  If people are involved there will be mistakes, offense, gossip, backbiting, affairs, criticism, lies and hate.      Remember why most people go to church, which is simply a gathering of people.   First out of obligation because your parents went and now you take your family.  Second because you feel like you need help or community.  Maybe there was a death, someone got really sick, divorce, you relocated and don’t know anyone, you feel like your life is not totally unfulfilled and you decided to go.  All good reasons to be in church.

Here is what I know after over four decades of attending church.  I have experienced everything I just stated good and ba...

Summer has always been special.  I remember when I was young and how much we enjoyed the last day of school and those 3 months off to do what we wanted. It use to be Memorial Day to Labor Day. We had time for adventure, go to the city pool, play baseball, make money mowing lawns, go to summer camp, summer vacation, etc.  Such great memories!  I still feel the same way.  I truly enjoy getting our pool ready for summer and planting flowers and tropical plants.  Cleaning everything up and getting ready for family pool time.  It’s is our gathering spot on the weekends.  We fire up the grille, eat watermelon, enjoy music and swim with the big red labs!

So… what is the point?  The point is to make life what you want.  Choose to make things special!  We could choose to...

The quote you see in the caption is from Tommy Tenney and its a great quote. If there is one thing I have learned over the last 5 decade’s it is way better to apologize quickly and forgive wrongs swiftly then to carry around anger and bitterness.   What I have said literally hundreds of times “Who wants to be judged on their worst day?”  I know that I don’t want to be judged on some of my worst days and so glad I was given grace by my friends and family.   Here is what I know if you carry around unforgiveness and remain bitter over an offense it’s like drinking poison and hoping it kills the other person!!   There is a ton of medical data regarding what this does to you physically which is a supernatural correlation to your body.  Literally unforgiveness will take you to the grave early!  The bibl...

Yesterday was Mother’s Day and my Mom is already in heaven which makes me sad and happy at the same time.   It was awesome to see how my children celebrated their Mom and how she has affected their lives to deeply.  That is what is special about mothers.  They not only bring life which is amazing, but they are usually the ones to nourish it too.  Mother’s know when to push, when to love, when to discipline, when to encourage and they always know if you are lying!   I honestly cannot imagine my life without my mother and my family without the most wonderful mother of all time my wife @Darlene Unclebach .   Honestly, she does not even realize how much impact she had on our children and everyone else she encounters.   I can tell you she has stood strong thru tough times.  She has stood strong when ar...

How do we pack it all in every day?   Get up take some time for self improvement, spend some time with God in the word and prayer, get in a quick workout,  head to work or your first meeting,  answer text, emails, check in on social media because the world might end if you don’t!  Get the kids to school, change the oil in the car,  purchase gifts for the next party,  shop for groceries, pick kids up and get them to practice,  head to church, check social media again Instagram needs to see your latest pic!!  I could go on and on and each of you could add a dozen activities to the list.   LIFE IS FAST and does not appear to be slowing down.  It is extremely important to make sure we focus every day on what is really life changing, what lines up with your core values.  Your spouse, your children, you...

Learning to be thankful in all things is very difficult at times.  As you get some years under your belt and some life situations you learn to see things through the lens of thankfulness!  You begin to see that God really does have you in his hand and has your best future in mind.  He can see the end from the beginning and we usually cannot.    There are times when it is easy to be thankful.  Those moments when you are overwhelmed by the love and generosity of others.  It can come during times to celebrate and comes in time of tragedy.    Yesterday it came to me during a time to celebrate and I was honestly overwhelmed with the love and gratitude extended toward me from people I know well and people I know through business or church.   The out pouring was beyond anything I deserve or could have po...

There is no perfect answer.  I would have told you something different in my 20’s , 30’s and 40’s.  Now that I am in my 50’s. it has changed again.  That is called getting older and hopefully wiser thru life’s challenges and opportunities.  No matter what age you are the sooner you can get focused on what is important to you the better.   It is also OK for that to change and evolve, it’s part of the process.    What I see all around me are people that still don’t know what they want, just getting bye or going from thing to thing!    Not sure why some people are focused and others are not?   It really is a choice and it can start with small decisions.  Decide to do good in school, decide to be a good athlete, decide to learn something you are passionate about,  decide to follow someone you respect,...

That just about sums it up!  Jesse knew that dreams can come true if you are willing to pay the price to make it happen.  Behind every great person, athlete, idea, new technology, break through or company is a lot of hard work.  Everyone has probably heard the term 5 year overnight success.  We all hear about these great new companies or products from companies that it took 5 years or more to create.  Many companies don’t show up on the radar until they are over a decade old.  Great effort, mistakes, failures, frustration, and then finally it all comes together for amazing success!  Malcolm Gladwell says it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything.  Michael Jordon did not become the great player he was without being first to practice and last to leave.  Nobody outworked him!  That is the...

I am sure I am not the only one who likes Tim McGraw’s great song that says “ …always be humble and kind”.  These are great lyrics and I have found now after almost 5½ decades is there is no greater truth.   Being humble and kind is not always easy, but it is a choice. What I have noticed is most of the extremely successful people I know figure this out and at the peak of their success they are some of the most gracious and humble people I have met.  Matter a fact if you didn’t know who they were you would have no idea how successful they were!  Everyone likes recognition and wants to be noticed, but it is always better coming from someone else.  Sometimes you have to get some life under you belt to figure this out.  You have to have a few punches in the gut, a few setbacks to find out the world d...

This great quote sent me down the road thinking about the tests in my own life and how they effected me negatively and more importantly positively.

You will never advance in any area that you have not been tested in. – Keith A. Craft .

Nobody likes the part of being tested, but it is so true! Testing creates strength, stamina, patience, wisdom, understanding and learning the value of success! Stay in the game... Finish your test and come out the other side elevated to your next level!
